Academic Support Services
Staffing:
What types of specialists do you hire?
Our specialists are all well-trained, having had a minimum of three years of experience in their field (teaching, working as a learning specialist, and/or instructing mindfulness). They have earned masters degrees in their area of speciality and hold the appropriate certifications for their role (where applicable). While our specialists work as independent contractors through our company, they are required to pass a fingerprinting background check prior to their work with us. Finally, we aim to hire qualified specialists from multiple backgrounds, representative of the diverse students and families we serve.
Logistics:
What do I do if I need to cancel a session?
Should you need to cancel a session, please let your child’s specialist know. In consideration of our specialists’ schedules (and barring extraordinary circumstances), we ask for 24 hours advance notice should you need to cancel. For additional information, please visit our Procedures and Policies page.
How can I pay for my child’s sessions?
Please visit our “Make a Payment” page.
What can I do if I feel that the specialist match is not a good match for my child?
We invest time in the beginning of each new relationship to make sure we place the appropriate specialist with each student. Intake sessions are recommended to build rapport and set initial goals, and early communication with a family is designed to further strengthen an ongoing partnership. That said, and while rare, there are times for whatever reason a specialist is not the right fit for a placement. Should this be the case in your situation, please contact us immediately so that we might be able to address any concerns and assign a new specialist, should that be necessary.
Programming:
Do specialists ever assign homework?
Our specialists work to meet the goals of each child’s personalized learning plan. In some cases, these plans require students to complete activities between sessions that help to meet goals. For example, a child may be encouraged to file their school papers each night in the organization system that has been created. For other children, activities between sessions can feel overwhelming and a specialist will design an educational plan that accomplishes targeted goals in another way. We look forward to meeting your child and speaking with you about which strategies would be most productive to meeting the established goals.
How long will it it take for me to receive my child’s personalized learning plan?
You should expect to receive your child’s individual educational plan three to four weeks after beginning sessions. This timing is purposeful, in that it offers families important information early on in the relationship, while at the same time allows our specialists time to get to know how each child learns best.
